Angus Fubara has nurtured a creative spirit since childhood, captivated by the art of storytelling and the power of imagination. Growing up, he found joy in both telling and listening to stories that explored the depths of human experience. To him, storytelling and poetry embody life’s essence—reflecting our identity, actions, origins, and aspirations. These stories thread together our ancestry, heritage, relationships, and culture, weaving a tapestry of shared humanity. Angus believes that storytelling satisfies the soul, akin to the refreshing taste of spring water or the comforting richness of an aged Bordeaux after a long journey.
My Story
Angus Fubara, an accomplished storyteller and bestselling author, was born in the Ibani Kingdom of Opobo, Nigeria, in the mid-seventies. Growing up in a conservative Christian family as the youngest of six siblings, Angus found inspiration in the oral traditions of his elders and kinsmen, who recounted tales of legendary figures and heroic deeds. This early exposure to storytelling sparked his love for the arts and nurtured his imagination.
Throughout his formative years, Angus cultivated his passion for storytelling through participation in school drama clubs and church choir performances, where his mother instructed drama and led the choir. These experiences nurtured his ability to craft vivid narratives and poetic expressions, setting the foundation for his journey as a writer and artist. Angus sees himself as a modern-day storyteller, dedicated to sharing his unique vision through captivating narratives that inspire, entertain, and connect people across generations.
Driven by strong influences from figures such as his grandmother, parents, and Nelson Mandela’s peaceful anti-apartheid movement, Angus developed a deep sense of community and service. He became a mentor for young men and women, both in his community and church. His generosity and philanthropy have extended far beyond his immediate surroundings, as Angus has donated over 27 pints of blood to the Red Cross and contributed to initiatives aimed at improving education and providing supplies for underserved students in the United States. He also supports education and small businesses in his hometown of Opobo, Nigeria.
Angus holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and possesses two decades of experience in Hospitality Management, Competitive Market Analysis, and Feasibility Services. He has held senior leadership positions across a diverse range of hotel brands and service levels, earning recognition for his commitment to excellence. In 2011 and 2012, Angus received an honorable mention for the Isaac Hunter Excellence in Service Award in Raleigh/Wake County for going above and beyond in service delivery. In 2014, Hilton Worldwide honored him with its prestigious “Spirit of Embassy Award” for his exceptional problem-solving skills and contributions to the Embassy Suites brand, which was also acknowledged in *The Raleigh News and Observer*.
